Fassina Balanyà Distillery
Fassina Balanyà was a small family-run distillery that dates back to the 1830s.
During the visit, you will learn about the importance of the production and trade of spirits in Catalonia. Additionally, using the restored machinery, we will explain the production process of obtaining spirits from grape pomace and how the by-products were reused.
The abandonment of the building without an alternative use allowed it to remain almost exactly as it was left.
You will discover the tools, machines, people, and society that kept it running — and how reuse and recycling of materials is not a modern innovation. On a Catalan scale, visitors will understand the key role that distilleries played in the birth and development of the industrial revolution.
The tour also includes, at the end, a small-scale distillation and a tasting of various types of spirits and liqueurs.
Fassina Balanyà is part of the Territorial System of the National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (STmNACTEC).
Semi-guided tour of the Fassina Balanyà museum, live distillation, and tasting of liqueurs. Approximate duration: 1 hour.
