Bodega Can Marles - el Montmell\" width=\"1050\" height=\"591\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zn6rcG9KFwg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2><span style=\"color: inherit; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;\"><strong> Route of The unexplored Mountains of Montmell<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>We will follow a short route from the <a href=\"http:\/\/enoguia.cat\/listings\/serra-del-montmell\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Can Marl\u00e9s winery<\/strong><\/a> to the church of Sant Miquel and the remains of Montmell Castle.<\/p>\n<p>At the winery, we will enjoy a guided tour together with a wine tasting and a full breakfast. We will also feed the <strong>herd of alpacas<\/strong>, learn about their history and discover how they contribute to making the winery more sustainable.<\/p>\n<p>After regaining some strength, we will walk uphill along a footpath with spectacular views that will take us to the top of the Baix Pened\u00e8s. We will pass by <strong>the new church of Sant Miquel<\/strong>, then <strong>the old church<\/strong>, and finally the remains of <strong>the castle of Montmell<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>00&#8242;.<\/strong> <\/span>After a visit of over two hours, we will leave the winery heading south, leave the main path onto a new track and start to hike upwards.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>50&#8242;<\/strong>.<\/span> The track turns into a footpath and in less than an hour we will reach <strong>the new church of Sant Miquel<\/strong> (16th century).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>55&#8242;.<\/strong><\/span> Picnic area in Montmell. A part of the group members, some of them with children, will stay here.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>1h 15&#8242;.<\/strong> <\/span>After a steep climb we will reach<strong> the<\/strong> <strong>old church of Sant Miquel<\/strong> (12th century). 710 m.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>1h 30&#8242;<\/strong>.<\/span> We leave the old church and continue up a steep climb, sometimes having to use our hands. We finally reach the remains of <strong>Montmell Castle<\/strong> (790m). Here we will enjoy spectacular views over part of the Camp de Tarragona.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>2h<\/strong>.<\/span> We descend from the castle and using the same path, we reach the picnic area. Here we can have a pleasant lunch and then head back to the cars.<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Note:<\/strong><\/span> All times are approximate. Doing the route alone or in a group can alter the partial and total times.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2><strong>The castle<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>It is the highest castle in the whole of the Pened\u00e8s. There are documents from before the year 1000 attesting its existence. It was used to guard the border of the so-called Marca Hisp\u00e1nica on the territory dominated by the Saracens. Initially, a 10-metre-high tower was built, and later on the walled area enclosing the castle.
