In Catalonia, we can find a long list of wineries that produce vegan wine<\/strong>. However, before discovering them, let’s explore the characteristics of this type of wine, because what is vegan wine?<\/p>\n

What is meant by vegan wine?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Vegan wine<\/strong> is wine that excludes animal derivatives in its production. In other words, no animal products are used either in the ingredients or during the manufacturing process.<\/p>\n

The wine comes from grapes\ud83c\udf47, is stored in wooden barrels within a cellar, and the bottles it is kept in are made of glass. Up to this point, the entire process is vegan. However, it is during the clarification of the wine that each producer uses the techniques they consider appropriate.<\/p>\n

Clarification is the process carried out to clean the wine and remove impurities, yeasts, remaining proteins, and other substances that could hinder it before being bottled.<\/p>\n

In traditional wine clarification, animal-derived substances may be used, such as casein (a protein from milk), gelatin (derived from animal cartilage), egg whites, albumin (a protein from blood), etc.<\/p>\n

In the case of vegan wine, clarification<\/strong> is done with plant-based or mineral elements<\/strong>, for example, using proteins derived from potatoes, wheat, peas, or carrageenan (a polysaccharide extracted from seaweed).\ud83c\udf3e<\/p>\n
