Located in the Priorat region, specifically in the town of Gratallops, we venture into the historic stone walls, built in the 13th century, at Carrer Saperes number 7 and discover the Clos Alkio winery, founded by Mikko Alkio.

Visitors to the winery are invited to immerse themselves, guided at all times by the winery’s team, in a full sensory experience where each bottle tells the story of the terroir behind it, and where in each glass, the essence of what Priorat represents to us is discovered.

Mikko, of Finnish origin, discovered Priorat and fell in love with everything it represents for many, both in terms of vineyards, wine, land, and people. So much so that in 2020, he embarked on his most personal project with the creation of the winery and the acquisition of estates, transitioning them towards organic production.

Mikko is a wine enthusiast; his mission is to showcase to the world the products made in the land he loves so much, Priorat.

Currently, the winery has 25 hectares of land, including vineyards and olive groves, spread throughout the municipality of Gratallops, all of them worked manually with great care, respect, and, above all, ecologically. Clos Alkio wants to pay homage to the heritage left by our ancestors by blending it with newer and more current techniques.

We cultivate different types of varieties, traditional to the area such as Carinyena and Garnatxa Negra (both from old vineyards), as well as foreign varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Ull de Llebre (as representatives of black varieties), Chenin, and Pedro Ximénez (as representatives of white varieties). Each wine produced in the winery is made respecting both the terroir of each estate and minimal intervention in the production.

The commitment of the winery to the land where it is located is, primarily, to carry out sustainable productions, with minimal intervention, and to preserve the integrity of the Priorat ecosystem. None of the estates are treated with herbicides or pesticides.

For Mikko, Priorat represents a transformative passion where he wants to be present. His vision and mission, through the winery, are to honour tradition, drive innovation, and protect the environment.
