The Marco Abella winery, located in the town of Porrera, in the DOC Priorat, is considered one of the reference wineries in the region. The privileged location of the winery, the height, the soil and the Mediterranean climate determine the essence of its wines, which are characterized by being fresh, elegant and sophisticated wines, wines that have in common the ease of drinking them and enjoying them.

In the 15th century there is evidence that the family of winegrowers Marco was established in the town of Porrera. The locality received a direct influx of Carthusian monks and the family knew how to take full advantage of the varieties that have adapted so well to the Priorat area: Carignan and Grenache.

The Marco Abella winery that we know today was founded in 2005, incorporating the most advanced technology but without ceasing to produce wines that express the authenticity of the territory, the history and the essence of the town of Porrera.

The building is a winery fully integrated into the environment, which is committed to agriculture that respects the environment, and allows a traditional and respectful cultivation of the vine. In this way, the aim is to produce high quality wines that respect the environment. The works are carried out following the lunar phases. Ecological agriculture – also known as organic or biological – does not allow the use of herbicides or insecticides. The fertility of the land is always achieved through natural methods, mineral-based, organic or plant-based.

The cellar has three levels and vinifies by gravity. Two of the three levels are underground. The rearing room is 7 meters below ground level. Thus, the temperature and humidity are suitable for the correct aging of the wines. The building is of modern design and architecture, with clear lines, and is perfectly integrated into the surrounding landscape. After the visit, the tasting takes place in a fantastic specially equipped room with excellent views of the surrounding rolling hills. Practicing wine tourism is made easy in spacious and open facilities.

The height, soil and orientation of Marco Abella‘s estates give each wine its own identity. The soil provides a high level of mineralization, unique in the world and only found in wines from the Priorat area. It is an arid and dry soil, with an abundance of licorice. The vines are grown on the coast at an altitude of between 200 and 700 meters.

Marco Abella has 40 hectares of planted vineyards, spread over seven different estates: El Perer, which contains Carignan, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon, at an altitude of between 450 and 550 meters; La Mallola, with Grenache and Carignan planted, at around 530 and 680 meters of altitude; La Mina, with Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon, between 450 and 500 meters of altitude; Masos d’en Ferran, which has more types of varieties planted: Carignan, Grenache, White Grenache, Macabeu, Viognier and Pedro Ximenes, at around 500 and 650 meters of altitude; the Solanes “El Coster” of Carinyena, at an altitude of between 500 and 650 meters; La Creu, with Carignan, Garnacha, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, at around 450 and 550 meters above sea level; and finally Terracuques, which also has the local varieties, Grenache and Carignan.

Visit Marco Abella, a family winery that was born from the passion and dedication of wanting to return to the roots, of wanting to reconnect with the past while looking to the future.

Los vinos con cuerpo y fuerza dome´sticada, fiel reflejo del terruño duro y extremo de la zona.
