The Clos Galena winery was born in El Molar in 1999, when the Pérez-Dalmau family’s dream of running their own winery in the DOQ Priorat became a reality. Their first wines were launched on the market a few years later, in 2002.

From the very beginning, both Merche and Miguel firmly believed that the Priorat project had to be guided by a deep respect for the environment. They built their sustainable and ecological winery at a time when the DOQ Priorat was beginning to gain a certain reputation in the wine world thanks to René Barbier, Álvaro Palacios, Dafne Glorian and the rest of the ‘Pioneers’.

In 2013, when her husband passed away, Merche decided to carry on with the project they had started together, thus paying the greatest tribute that she could to the person with whom she had begun the journey of producing limited edition wines of exceptional quality.

In recent years, the winery has also made determined efforts in the area of wine tourism, revealing to the world the fantastic place where its wines are made. You can visit the winery by choosing one of the several wine tours they offer.

You can try the classic visit, with a tasting of two wines, enjoy a brunch of local products or even a meal along with the wine tasting. They also offer tours and events for companies, which include the wine tasting and a meal or coffee breaks. During the calçotada season (from January to March), besides the tour, you can participate in a typical calçotada, where you will taste the region’s unique spring onions (calçots) grilled and served with a special sauce and accompanied with other grilled vegetables and meats.

Visit Clos Galena to discover the purest Priorat, and taste its smooth, full-bodied wines with ripe tannins that still manage to retain a certain freshness.

“Your wine is going to be at a very important event,” was what Clos Galena’s Swedish importer told Merche a few days before her Formiga de Vellut 2014 wine was served at the Nobel Prize dinner. Currently, her wines are exported to more than 30 countries and 70% of the winery’s production is used to supply international markets with exacting standards.

A day of wine tourism at this Priorat winery will bring you this and other surprises, such as the ‘Art, Wine and Territory’ collection, where a number of renowned artists illustrated the tops of Clos Galena’s wooden wine crates, creating unique limited-edition works of art.

Make an oenological trip to the Priorat and discover its heart and soul in Clos Galena.
