👉🏼 River and Wine is an activity carried out by the Molí de Rué winery, in the DO Tarragona. The winery, located in Vinebre, has organized the experience River and Wine, which revolves around a trip onboard a ‘llagut’ (traditional boat). In this way, it will be possible to discover the wines of the winery while peacefully descending through the waters of the Ebro river. ⛵️

What is the ‘River and wine’ activity about?

The River and Wine activity can be split into two parts. During the first part we will discover the landscapes in which the wines of the winery are elaborated as we go down the Ebro river aboard the ship Lo Roget. 💦

During our descent of its waters we will taste a number of wines from the winery: two young wines, the Mims Blanc and the Mims Rosat. At the same time, we will be told stories about the river and its people, through which we will get to know some of the peculiarities of these lands.

After sailing down the river we will arrive at the port, and from there we will move to the facilities of the Molí de Rué winery, located in the village of Vinebre. There we will get to know the history of the winery and we will be shown how they carry out the winemaking process. 🍷 🍇

To bring the visit to an end, we will taste two more wines from the winery, Mims Negre and the famous sweet wine ‘Sol i Serena’ which is made following the traditional method known as ‘Vimblanc’.

The tasting is accompanied by local products from the farm shop: cheeses, nuts, olives… 🧀

What is a llagut or llaüt?

The two terms refer to a traditional boat used for centuries on the lower Ebro River and which basically served as a means of transport for all kinds of goods. 📦 ⚓️

These ships were used until the early 20th century. These vessels served as an effective means of transport and could carry up to 40 tons. They sailed downstream by taking advantage of the current, but everything became more complicated on the way upstream, since they were going against the current.

Towpaths were used to sail upstream, which were paths located on the bank of the river which allowed donkeys, mules or draught horses to pull the boat with a rope. 🐎

The llagut Lo Roget is a modern replica of these typical boats that originated in Muslim times. It was named after a Moorish bandit of the area.
