DOQ Priorat
Five generations of wine tradition
Comparteix →

Cellers Capafons-Ossó produces estate wines in two denominations: Finca Mas de Masos (Priorat DOQ) and Finca Masía Esplanes (Montsant DO). Francesc Capafons and Montserrat Ossó are the fifth generation and now with their son, Francesc (a winemaker and oenologist), they produce unique, organic wines with a distinctive personality. Accommodation is available at the winery.

They have rural accommodation in the same winery and go hiking and biking in the area. If you want to book you can do it here directly Masies Esplanes, La Montse and Francesc will be the perfect hosts. You can also sleep in Falset, in this case we recommend the Hostal Sport. Cellers Capafons-Ossó is a family winery that produces wines in two sister appellations: DOQ Priorat and DO Montsant. The history of this winery goes back five generations to when their ancestors first cultivated vines in the area.

You can visit both the Montsant winery, located near Falset, and the Priorat winery, which is more isolated and located in an area with a unique microclimate that gives its wines a typically Priorat profile. By visiting both, you will be able to discover two wineries and two appellations in one short oenological getaway.

The Masia Esplanes estate (DO Montsant) has 10 hectares of vineyards planted on gentle slopes in gravelly soil made up of clay and granite. It is dominated by the red varieties garnatxa (Grenache), Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah.

The other emblematic estate is Mas de Masos (DOQ Priorat). Here, 60 hectares of vineyards are planted on steep slopes, with up to fifteen springs that provide water all year round. Red varieties such as the local garnatxa, garnatxa peluda, and samsó (Cariñena) are grown here, along with Touriga Nacional and Cabernet Sauvignon. The white Viognier variety is also present.

In a visit to this inland region of the Costa Daurada, you can learn the secrets of both wineries on the same day, or, if you prefer, you can visit just one of the two.

The wine tours, which require prior reservation, are organized for groups of up to 12 people and carried out in 4×4 vehicles. They can be done any day of the week.

Once you have visited the estates, you will move to the old family farmhouse that dates from 1889, which has been perfectly restored and adapted for tasting wines and olive oil (which the they also produce). During the wine tasting you will discover, in depth, the nuanced differences between these two appellations that, though geographically close, differ widely enough to be classified separately.
