Masroig  Visit to the Masroig winery Dry Stone Trail Lunch Masroig

The dry stone route of Masroig will allow us to discover a number of huts that were used in the past by farmers of the area to take cover from the storms, the cold of winter and the heat of summer.

We will walk comfortably between perfectly aligned dry stone margins and observe how the huts are able to stay up without the use of any type of mortar or cement, being perfectly balanced only due to the equal distribution of weight and the craft of expert hands.

Our route coincides with the ancient bridleway from Masroig to Falset at the Coll de la Falsetana, an old path used by the people of the region to travel between the two villages.

Before or after the route, we can visit the Masroig winery and learn about the philosophy of a winery founded in 1917. The perfect opportunity to discover the landscape and the wines of Montsant.

The Dry Stone Trail of Masroig

00′. We start walking from the winery building through the parking for campers, where we will be able to load up on water for our route. We cross the T-734 road and after a few meters we turn right.

5′. First signpost. From this point onwards we will follow the yellow marks that indicate the footpath to the Coll de la Falsetana. We will go right and leave behind the path that leads to the Chapel of Our Lady of Les Pinyeres.

30′. Barraca del Cal Josepó. The first construction we will find, of circular shape and in a perfect state of conservation.

35′. We continue along the track and after just 500 metres we go off the path to the right to see the Barraca del Jaume el Xalet. As a fun fact, this construction has windbreaks at the access door for sheltering from the most common winds in the area: ponente and levant. There are also remains of what could have been a small pen or a similar structure.

45′. We go back to the road and after approximately 600 meters we will reach a crossroads. We turn to the left, and in the background we will already be able to see the buildings of Joan de cal Quimet. The big hut has a door with a pointed arch and thick walls for sheltering from the cold or the heat more effectively. The other hut is smaller and was used as a warehouse, so its door is wider. We decide to have lunch here.

1h. Once on the main road, we will continue to move forward until we reach a branching path, at which point we will take the left path, leaving the main track. The road becomes a footpath and through its ascent we will arrive at the Coll de la Falsetana, where to the right, between a pine forest, we will find the last dry stone hut: the Barraca del Coll de la Falsetana.

If we keep on going for a few more meters we will reach a mountain pass with scenic views of Falset and the entire region. We will now begin our descent of the Camí Ral so as to return to Masroig through the same path.

Ruta de la Pedra Seca de Masroig ends by returning along the same path.

Note: All times are estimated. Doing this activity either alone or in group can significantly alter the length of each section or of the whole route.
