Masroig Masroig Cellar Visit Route de la Pedra Seca Lunch Masroig
The dry stone route of Masroig will allow us to discover a series of huts that formerly the farmers of the area used to take refuge from the storms, the cold of winter and the heat of summer.
We will walk comfortably among perfectly aligned dry stone margins and observe how the huts hold up perfectly without the use of any type of mortar or cement, only the perfect balance of forces and expert hands keep them standing.
Our route coincides with the Camí Ral del Masroig a Falset through the Coll de la Falsetana, an old path used by the inhabitants of the region to travel between the two villages.
Before or after the route, we can visit Celler Masroig and learn about the philosophy of a winery founded in 1917. A perfect plan to discover the landscape and the wines of Montsant.
Route of the Dry Stone of Masroig
00′. We start walking from the winery building through the parking for motorhomes where we can drink water for our route. We cross the T-734 road and turn right.
5′. First indicator pole. From this point we will follow during all our route the yellow marks that indicate the footpath, direction the Coll de la Falsetana, leaving to our left the way that leads to the Hermitage of the Pinyeres.
30′. Barraca del Cal Josepó. The first of the constructions we will find. With a circular shape and in perfect state of conservation.
35′.We continue along the track and in just 500 metres we turn off the path to the right to see the Barraca del Jaume el Xalet. As a curiosity, this construction has windbreaks at the access door to avoid the most common winds in the area: the west and the east. We can also see the remains of what could be a small corral or similar.
45′. We return to the road and in approximately 600 meters we will reach a crossroads. We turn to the left, and in the background we see the buildings of the Joan de cal Quimet. The big hut has a door with a pointed arch and is of thick walls to protect itself more effectively from the cold or the heat. The other hut, is smaller and served as a warehouse, so its door is wider.
1h.Once on the main road, we will continue to move forward to reach a fork where we will continue on the left, leaving the main track. The way becomes a path and in ascent we will arrive at the Coll de la Falsetana, where to the right, between a forest of pines, we will find the last hut constructed in dry stone: barraca del Coll de la Falsetana.
If we continue a few more meters we have the pass with good views over Falset, where the Camí Ral would take us now in a gentle descent.
Ruta de la Pedra Seca de Masroig ends by returning along the same path.
Note: Times are always approximate. Starting alone or with a large group can greatly alter the partial times and the final total.
